Faced with a dilemma about participation in the upcoming civic polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the state unit of the Congress party has left the decision to its central core group which is meeting on Wednesday in New Delhi to deliberate over the issue.

President of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, G A Mir has reached New Delhi to participate in the core group meeting.

“About the participation in local bodies’ elections Congress core group is meeting in New Delhi,” the party vice president, G N Monga told Greater Kashmir.

“The decision will be taken there after taking stock of the situation.”

However, Monga maintained that the prevailing situation in the state was not conducive for the process of civic polls to take place.

On Thursday, after meeting of its senior leaders the party questioned the government’s seriousness to take up the exercise, asking the central and local government clear the air up on the issue of holding these elections which are already boycotted by the two main parties, the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Now, the state unit of the Congress party has deputed its vice president Ghulam Nabi Monga to brief the central leadership over the issue.

Sources in Congress have revealed that party was in dilemma as nobody from southern Kashmir parts is ready to contest. Some people from northern Kashmir however have expressed their desire to contest the already announced elections, they said.
