Clashes erupted on Wednesday in Rathsun village of southern Tral town of police district Awantipora after security forces started searches in the area.
Witnesses said that many youth took to streets and clashedwith security forces after they started a cordon and search operation (CASO)near Jamia Masjid Rathsun on in the afternoon.
“A group of locals resorted to stone-pelting to disruptthe CASO. However, forces responded by lobbing teargas shells to disperse theprotesting youth.” A resident said.
Jammu & Kashmir police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) andCentral Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jointly searched the area for presence ofsuspected militants there after receiving specific information, an officialsaid. However, no militant was found until the eveningwhen the search was called off, the official said.
