Clashes erupt after forces lay siege to Heff village in south Kashmir

Clashes erupted between government forces and protestors after the former launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Heff village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Reports said that youth took to streets and pelted the forces with stones as soon as the CASO was launched.

The forces, according to eye witnesses, fired tear gas to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.

An official said that the CASO was jointly launched by army, police and the CRPF following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Pertinently, three youth from the village, including Saddam Padder, are active militants.
