Five protestors suffered injuries after they clashed with security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday afternoon.
A police official said that security forces laid a siege around Ganowpora village following the information about thepresence of militants in the area.
He said that as forces started a search operation, bands ofyoung men poured onto the streets and threw rocks at them in a bid to disrupt the operation.
The forces, according to the official, responded by firingtear smoke shells and pellets.
Local residents told Greater Kashmir that at least fivepersons suffered injuries in forces’ action and were treated locally.
The operation was, however, called off as no militants wasfound in the area.
