Clashes erupt in Pulwama after youth injured in Shopian army firing dies

Rayees Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Yousuf Ganie (19) of Narpora Shopian succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours today after battling for life for nearly five days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.

Youth clashed with government forces at Murran Chowk and Rajpora Chowk in Pulwama district of south Kashmir after a youth injured in army firing in Shopian died on Wednesday.

Rayees Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Yousuf Ganie (19) of Narpora Shopian succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours today after battling for life for nearly five days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura. 

Earlier, two youth – Javed Ahmad Bhat of Balpora and Suhail Javed Lone of Gawanpora – were killed in the firing on Saturday.

An eye witness said that as soon as the news about the death of third youth spread in the area, a group of youth took to the streets at various spots of main town and pelted the forces with stones. The forces responded by firing tear gas.

An official said that forces have been deployed on various locations across the town to maintain law and order.
