Clashes, protests in south Kashmir after Friday prayers

The youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans had assembled after the congregational Friday prayers.

Clashes erupted in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town after youth pelted stones at the police and paramilitary forces deployed in there on Friday.

The youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans had assembled after the congregational Friday prayers.

Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in strength in the town to prevent any big demonstration on the anniversary of Qazi Nisar Ahmad who was gunned down on this day in 1994.

Restrictions were also imposed in view of a call for a march to Sopore by pro-freedom leaders to protest the spate of civilian killings in north Kashmir by unidentified gunmen.
