Class 11 result will be declared in 2 days, says secretary education

An inordinate delay by education authorities in declaring the results of class 11 examination has left the students and their parents apprehensive and resentful. The parents of the students have also warned of demonstrations if the results are not declared soon.

Many parents who spoke to Greater Kashmir said their children were not able to concentrate on their class 12 subjects.

“Given the delay of two months, our kids apprehend that there are flaws in evaluation or award

sheets have gone missing. Students are worried about it also because the JKBOSE conducted class 11 exams after a gap of many years,” said Muhammad Azhar, a parent from Baramulla.

He said the parents are planning demonstrations against the BOSE and the education department.

“Students were expecting their result within 40 days of exams like in case of classes 10 and 12. But BOSE has failed to declare it within the stipulated time period,” said Iqbal Ahmad, a parent from Srinagar.

The class 11 examination commenced in the last week of October 2018 and ended in November. Around 69106 students had appeared in the exam.

A BOSE official said that they have completed evaluation of papers and other formalities in the last week of January.

“But the delay has happened because the administrative department is yet to approve a copy of the result sheet we sent them 10 days ago,” an official, wishing anonymity, said.

He said the result declaration committee comprising director school education, joint secretary secrecy department, secretary and chairman JKBOSE, is yet to authenticate the result following the delay at the administrative level.

“It seems officers are not available in civil secretariat to go through the result sheet. The result can be declared within one hour after it gets approval of the administrative department,” the official said and added that JKBOSE submits the factual assessment of students, while the decision about awarding grace marks is taken by the administrative department.

“Grace marks are given to improve the pass percentage of the overall result. But it seems they are indecisive, otherwise they would have finalised the result and sent it back to the JKBOSE,” the official said.

Secretary school education department Ajit Kumar Sahu said the result will be declared within two days.

“Actually BOSE had to conduct class 11 exams after a gap of many years so they first focused on class 10 and 12. That’s why there was a bit of delay,” he said.

Asked why the administrative department has been sitting over approval of the result already submitted to it, Sahu said, “That is a secret process which can’t be shared. But BOSE has its own decisions and procedures which are being followed.”
