Clerical staff continues strike, seek end to pay anomaly

The clerical cadre employees here on Thursday took to streets again to demonstrate against pay anomaly and resolved to continue with the strike till May 1.

In the summer capital of Srinagar, the employees held a protest rally from the engineering complex in Raj Bagh to horticulture directorate under the leadership of General Secretary Jeelani Nayak. Talking to Greater Kashmir Nayak said the government has continuously hiked the pay scales of other cadres that were with clerical staff – like teachers, police officers, revenue officers and many others. But, he said the clerical staff remains the only one cadre constantly ignored in spite of recommendations by two official panels and multiple promises by the government.

The clerks from Lakhanpur to Ladakh will continue to their strike until the pay anomaly was resolved, said Malik Muhammad Farooq, who was leading the demonstrations outside the press enclave here. “We will intensify our protests in case our demands are not met,” he said.
