10+2 lecturers on Monday held a protest demanding regularization of their services. The lecturers said that government is failing to implement years old order entitling them to regularization of their services.
Scores of the lecturers from various districts of Kashmirassembled at press colony under the banner of “All J&K contractuallecturers association” amid slogans in favor of their demands.
“We were appointed in 2003 against vacant posts in differenthigher secondary schools. As per the government order in 2003 we were supposedto be regularized within three years but nothing was done,” said Gurjeet Singh,president of the association.
“Even as per the new contractual rule, those lecturers whohave worked for five years or more are entitled to a permanent job. But we have been working for more than adecade, still there is no concrete policy for us,” he said.
The protesting lecturers also said that authorities areissuing exam notifications for the recruitment of contractual lecturers withoutmaking any permanent policy for those who have been working from more than adecade.
“We demand that those who were appointed a decade ago shouldbe exempted from the process and new recruits should be only taken against thevacant posts without discontinuing our services,’ said one of the protestinglecturers.
The lecturers said that they have met every senior officialin this regard but to no avail. Theysaid that they want their matter to be resolved as soon as possible, or elsethey will go for an indefinite strike.
Around 900 of these contractual lecturers are working acrossdifferent higher secondary schools of the state.
