Cop fires in air after ‘suspicious movement’

Police on Sunday said a police guard fired few rounds in the air after noticing suspicious movement near the house of a National Conference leader in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A police spokesperson said that the guard was on his duty in the district when he observed some suspicious movement near the residential house of the protected person.

“An alert sentry fired few rounds in air this afternoon. No loss of life or property has been reported,” he said.

Further details are being collected, he added.

Meanwhile, reports said police has foiled a weapon snatching bid by militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town.

A police official said that militants, believed to be two in number, came on a motorcycle and attacked a police post guarding the National Conference leader Abdul Rashid Nangroo in New Colony Pulwama.

“They tried to snatch the weapons from the police men deployed there. However, the cops opened the fire, forcing the militants to escape from the spot” the official added.
