Cop held with 750 gram heroin in Handwara: Police

J&K police arrested a cop from Armed Wing with 750 gram of heroin in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, a police official said.

He said a checkpoint was established at Chowgul area of Handwara.”During checking, one Mushtaq Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad of Kalmuna village inHandwara was arrested and heroin weighing 750 gram was recovered from hispossession,” he said.

   

The official said: “Santro car bearing registration numberJK01V-1178 was also seized in the matter.”

He said the arrested cop was shifted to police stationHandwara and a criminal case vide FIR 188/2019 was registered against him.

It may be mentioned that earlier on June 11, a policemenposted in Auxiliary wing of SDRF namely Amjid Ali Khan of Diver Lolab inKupwara district was arrested with 950 gram heroin worth Rs 25 lakh, wasarrested during at a search point in Lolab area.

Earlier this year, brown sugar worth Rs 70 crore wasrecovered in Kupwara, which as per Senior Superintendent of Police KupwaraShriram Ambarkar, had been transported from Pakistan.

Two persons, both residents of Karnah, were arrested alongwith the sumo vehicle which was used for the offence.

Meanwhile, Ambarkar said a drive has been launched by thepolice against drug menace in Kupwara district.
