Coronavirus Scare | SMC intensifies fumigation process in municipal areas

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Monday intensified fumigation process in municipal areas.

Teams of SMC were seen in different localities busy withfumigation. The teams have been provided special uniform and equipment to makethe process effective.

   

A special team also arrived at the Press Enclave here anddid fumigation. “These are special drives and are now being carried on dailybasis,” said SMC official Choudhary Mehraj-u-Din, who overlooks the fumigationprocess in some municipal areas.

Chief Sanitation Officer, Syed Nisar who overlooks theentire operation, said the “sterilization spraying” was also done in the publictransport.

“All garbage collection points and dumpsters are sterilizedand sanitized with bleach spraying regularly,” he added.

Earlier on March 11, Srinagar Municipal CommissionerGazanfar Ali issued several orders for enforcement of precautionary measureswithin Srinagar municipal limits in view of coronavirus threat.

As per the orders, all public congregations, social,political or religious, have been barred within municipal limits.

All educational institutions and coaching centers,gymnasiums, indoor and outdoor stadia, clubs, sports centers have been closed.

Special 200 teams are being deployed each for specialsterilization at vulnerable places, including all flea markets.

SMC Commissioner Gazanfar Ali said the corporation hasintensified efforts for the public good to defeat the coronavirus.

“We are also issuing public advisories on regular basis inthe public interest to make people aware about precautionary measures in viewof coronavirus threat,” he said.

The SMC Central Office has also been closed for the visitorsand the public till further orders.

The advisory issued by SMC has asked people to desist fromshopping especially of eatables and garments from roadside vendors.
