Court extends remand of Birdi, Lakhvinder

Srinagar, Mar 31: A local court on Wednesday extended by six days the judicial remand of commandant of Border Security Force, R K Birdi and his subordinate, Lakhvinder Kumar, who were arrested in connection with the killing of Nishat teenager, Zahid Farooq on February 5.
 The remand of the duo was earlier extended by 10 days by Forest Magistrate on March 22.
 Police on Wednesday produced them in the court of Sub-Registrar Manjeet Singh Manhas, who extended their remand till April 5.
 Counsel for accused Molvi Aijaz, advocate Nazir Ahmad Ronga who represented the complainant and Public Prosecutor Abdul Aziz Teli were present.
 After hearing the arguments, the court extended the remand of the duo till April 5.
 Birdi was arrested on charges of murder, abetment of crime and destruction of evidence under sections 302, 201 and 109.
 Lakhvinder, a BSF constable was arrested last month by police on murder charges.
 He had reportedly told the SIT that Birdi had ‘provoked’ him to open fire at Zahid.
 The duo had been arrested in a case FIR No 04/2010 under section 302, 109, 201 RPC lodged in police station Nishat.
