Covid-19: Aggrieved parents demand evacuation of their children stranded in Bangladesh

The parents of several students who are stuck at a medical college in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on Sunday demanded evacuation of their kids, saying their health was at risk in view of Covid-19 pandemic.

Greater Kashmir has received distressed calls from the parents who said they were ready to help the J&K government monetarily to get their wards evacuated. “Around 72 Kashmiri girls are stuck in a medical college Dhaka, Bangladesh. The teachers have left from the college including the hostel warden,” a female parent told Greater Kashmir.

   

She said with no staff available in the college, the students are forced to visit the market to fetch eatables for them. “On one hand they are asked to remain in quarantine but on the other they are forced to move outside to purchase daily necessities,” she said.

The parents urged the J&K administration to get these students evacuated from the college keeping in view their safety and health.

Recently, a group of 70 students of Kashmir pursuing various medical courses in different colleges of Bangladesh were asked to return to their college from international passenger terminal Benapole Landport, Jashore.

The students including boys and girls had left for Kashmir after their colleges were shut in wake of the COVID-19 breakout.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had sought the intervention of External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr. S Jaishankar to assist the Kashmiri students stuck in Bangladesh.

“Requesting @DrSJaishankar to kindly intervene with the Government of Bangladesh to assist these Kashmiri students as best possible,” Omar Abdullah had tweeted few days ago.
