COVID-19 Lockdown: Education department gives approval for mass promotion for students from class 1st to 9th, 11th in Jammu division

The school education department on Tuesday approved the proposal for granting mass promotion of all government and private school students from class 1st to 9th and 11th in Jammu division.

The government has also approved mass promotion for students who were supposed to appear in bi-annual class 11th examinations winter zones of both, Jammu and Kashmir division.

The decision has been taken after a proposal was submitted by Chairperson JK Board of School Education (BOSE) Veena Pandita on April 04 seeking mas promotion of the students from class 1st to 9th and 11th.

“Keeping in view the prevailing extraordinary circumstances of the worldwide spread of COVID-19 and the country wide lockdown and the academic future of the students, the competent authority has agreed to your proposal and advised you to take necessary action, including issue of notification for implementation of the decision,” reads an official communique addressed to JKBOSE Chairman from deputy secretary school education department.

The proposal for granting the mas promotion to the students has been approved keeping in view the delay in the commencement of new academic session Jammu division.

“The students from class 1st to 9th class had already appeared in their annual examination but the evaluation of their answer scripts and declaration of result was pending due to the prevailing situation,” Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ), Anuradha Gupta told Greater Kashmir.

She said the new academic session was supposed to commence in Jammu division from April 01 which was however delayed due to the country wide lockdown.

“So keeping in view the present circumstances, it was not possible to complete the evaluation and later start new session that is why proposal for mass promotion to the students was submitted to the government,” she said.

The students from class 1st to 9th of Jammu division schools (government and private), affiliated with JKBOSE and recognized by school education department of J&K, will be promoted to the next class grade for the academic session 2020-21 as one time exemption .

“The director school education Jammu shall monitor and finalize this process of promotion as peer approved norms,” the document reads.

“The students of class 11th who were to appear in class 1th annual regular examination falling under summer zone of Jammu division (that stands postponed) be promoted to 12th class as one time exemption,” it reads.

The students will be promoted to the class 12th subject to the condition that they have filled the examination form and every students has been found eligible to appear in annual exam besides a proper roll number slip is issued to him by JK Board.

Also, the class 11th students from winter zones of Jammu and Kashmir division who were to appear in class 11th private biannual exam will be considered for mass promotion as well. The students will be promoted provided they have duly filed in the examination forms as per JKBOSE norms and have been approved by the JKBOSE authorities.

“The promotion of the students (in both the divisions) shall be subject to the condition that, if for any reason and at any stage in future, it is found that a candidate was not eligible for appearing in Class 11th but has been declared fit for promotion by the school, JKBOSE reserves the right to cancel his/her promotion without any prior notice,” the official communique reads.
