COVID-19 Lockdown: Education department gives approval for mass promotion for students from class 1st to 9th, 11th in Jammu division

The schooleducation department on Tuesday approved the proposal for granting masspromotion of all government and private school students from class 1st to9th and 11th in Jammu division.

The government hasalso approved mass promotion for students who were supposed to appear inbi-annual class 11th examinations winter zones of both, Jammuand Kashmir division.

   

The decision hasbeen taken after a proposal was submitted by Chairperson JK Board of SchoolEducation (BOSE) Veena Pandita on April 04 seeking mas promotion of thestudents from class 1st to 9th and 11th.

“Keeping in viewthe prevailing extraordinary circumstances of the worldwide spread of COVID-19and the country wide lockdown and the academic future of the students, thecompetent authority has agreed to your proposal and advised you to takenecessary action, including issue of notification for implementation of thedecision,” reads an official communique addressed to JKBOSE Chairman fromdeputy secretary school education department.

The proposal forgranting the mas promotion to the students has been approved keeping in viewthe delay in the commencement of new academic session Jammu division.

“The students fromclass 1st to 9th class had already appeared intheir annual examination but the evaluation of their answer scripts anddeclaration of result was pending due to the prevailing situation,” DirectorSchool Education Jammu (DSEJ), Anuradha Gupta told Greater Kashmir.

She said the newacademic session was supposed to commence in Jammu division from April 01 whichwas however delayed due to the country wide lockdown.

“So keeping in viewthe present circumstances, it was not possible to complete the evaluation andlater start new session that is why proposal for mass promotion to the studentswas submitted to the government,” she said.

The students fromclass 1st to 9th of Jammu division schools(government and private), affiliated with JKBOSE and recognized by schooleducation department of J&K, will be promoted to the next class grade forthe academic session 2020-21 as one time exemption .

“The directorschool education Jammu shall monitor and finalize this process of promotion aspeer approved norms,” the document reads.

“The students ofclass 11th who were to appear in class 1th annual regular examinationfalling under summer zone of Jammu division (that stands postponed) be promotedto 12th class as one time exemption,” it reads.

The students willbe promoted to the class 12th subject to the condition thatthey have filled the examination form and every students has been foundeligible to appear in annual exam besides a proper roll number slip is issuedto him by JK Board.

Also, the class 11th studentsfrom winter zones of Jammu and Kashmir division who were to appear in class 11th privatebiannual exam will be considered for mass promotion as well. The students willbe promoted provided they have duly filed in the examination forms as perJKBOSE norms and have been approved by the JKBOSE authorities.

“The promotion ofthe students (in both the divisions) shall be subject to the condition that, iffor any reason and at any stage in future, it is found that a candidate was noteligible for appearing in Class 11th but has been declared fitfor promotion by the school, JKBOSE reserves the right to cancel his/herpromotion without any prior notice,” the official communique reads.
