COVID-19: People seek screening centres on Srinagar-Leh highway

Amid Coronavirus scare people here Tuesday urged the government to set-up screening centres on Srinagar-Ladakh national highway which is likely to be re-opened by end of this month.

The demand comes amid report that at least six positivecases of COVID-19 have been reported from Ladakh.

   

Locals said ahead of theopening of the highway the authorities should set-up the screening centres toensure that every passenger entering the Valley from mountainous Ladakh wasproperly tested.

A senior official said there has been no decision as of nowon re-opening the highway.

He said the Divisional Commissioner, Ladakh Saugat Biswastoday held a review meeting through video conferencing with the DeputyCommissioners and SSPs of Ganderbal and Kargil besides officials from BRO.

“It was decided thatanother review meeting will be held later this month to take call on re-openingthe highway,” the official said. DeputyCommissioner, Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal said once the highway is re-opened theadministration will take all preventive and precautionary measures byestablishing screening and monitoring camps at some entry points on the road.
