CPI (M) urges government to address water shortage

While expressing anguish over water scarcity in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir, CPI(M) Secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik Saturday urged the authorities to take immediate steps to overcome the problem.

Malik said a large number of areas in Srinagar city, south and north Kashmir were reeling under acute water crisis for the last several months.

“Taps in several localities are running dry and women in particular were facing hardships due to water shortage,” he said.

He said water shortage has even triggered protests in different parts of the Valley. “The reports that people are using tap water to irrigate kitchen gardens are unfortunate. Strict action must be taken against such people,” he said.
