Crackdown on Separatists: Nayeem, Farooq Dar, Gazi questioned by NIA

“There has been progress in investigation into the funds transaction to separatists,” NIA officials told Greater Kashmir. “Investigations are going on and the statements are being recorded.”

Claiming that there has been progress in investigation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) quizzed three separatist leaders Tuesday, two of them for fourth consecutive day.

“There has been progress in investigation into the funds transaction to separatists,” NIA officials told Greater Kashmir. “Investigations are going on and the statements are being recorded.”

Officials said that separatist leaders Ghazi Javed Baba and Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karatey, were quizzed for fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, while Nayeem Khan was also questioned. “Their statements are being recorded and every aspect of case is being looked into.”

After the 2016 pro-freedom uprising, Central government had repeatedly said that it would go harsher on Kashmir separatists.

On Sunday, the probe agency collected details of 13 accused and charge-sheeted several persons in cases pertaining to arson attacks on schools and public property.

The agency registered a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) against Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar and Javed Baba five days after a TV channel aired a sting operation. A PE is a precursor to a First Investigation Report (FIR) and subsequent probe, if necessary.

In August last year, the NIA had summoned and quizzed some separatist leaders in Kashmir. Earlier this year, the NIA had also questioned several cross LoC traders in Kashmir. The case is still under investigation.
