Crackdown political vendetta: Jama’at

Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir has strongly denounced the ongoing arrest spree by police and other forces across the Valley.

 In a statement a Jamaat  termed the arrests as “murder of democracy” and appealed human rights groups, United Nations and OIC to intervene into grave situation prevailing  in Jammu and Kashmir.

   

“State government is misusing its power to appease BJP and other communal forces and that have unleashed atmosphere of fear across the Valley. Hundreds of people having religious tilt have been detained without any grounds. The repressive policy adopted by the state has proved it beyond doubt that it’s trying to choke every peaceful political exercise in the Valley,” the statement said.

It said that “during  the past two days police have arrested hundreds of Jama’at members including its top brass leadership. On Sunday Jama’at chief Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz was produced before district magistrate Budgam who sent him to Central jail Srinagar till March 2, 2019. Jama’at’s deputy chief Moulana Ahmad Ullah Parray (Makki) was also detained by Anantnag police along with famous religious scholar Peer Noor-ud-din. Besides this, dozens of leaders from south to north have also been arrested. Moreover police have also detained Jamiat Ahle-Hadith deputy Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri, Moulana Muhammad Maqbool Akhurni and many other religious leaders from different organizations.”

“Jama’at vehemently condemns the arrest spree and reiterates that any attempt to scrap Article 35A will be unacceptable for people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement added.
