CTA seeks extension in winter vacation for colleges

The college teachers’ association has demanded extension in the winter vacation for government degree colleges in Kashmir in view of the inclement weather prevailing in the valley.

The CTA has submitted a representation to commissioner secretary higher education department Sarita Chauhan and the advisor to governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai appealing them extend the winter vacation at least by one week.

“The Kashmir division has been witnessing severe winter conditions this season. The heavy snowfall has blocked almost all the routes in the city and other districts disrupting the normal life in the valley,” said president CTA, Prof. Tariq Ashai.

He said the situation in rural areas was even worse where the public movement has badly been hampered.

“The night temperature has fallen and intense cold wave continues to grip the valley. Also, avalanches and landslides are hitting several place,” Prof Ashai said.

The CTA president said the governor administration should have a rethink over its decision for reopening of the degree colleges on February 12 keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions in Kashmir.

“We request the administration to extend the winter vacation by at least a week in the interest of students,” he said.
