CUK, JKYF organise joint awareness programme on social service

Central University of Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Foundation organised  a joint awareness programme on social service.

 The speakers calledfor fulfilling responsibility towards orphans, widows and destitute whilesimultaneously sensitizing younger generation about their role in mitigatingplight and difficulties of underprivileged and weaker sections of thesociety.  

   

The joint awareness programme titled “Social Service- OurRole and Responsibility,” was organised by Central University of Kashmir’sDirectorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and J&K Yateem Foundation (JKYF) atTown Hall in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district headquarters.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor of CentralUniversity of Kashmir, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said that people belonging toaffluent class should come forward and help the institutions and organizationsworking for the welfare of the orphans and destitute. He said the number oforphans in Kashmir has increased manifold due to the prevailing situation andthere was a dire need to address their concerns. He assured all possiblesupport to the JKYF in their endeavors.

The JKYF Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Rather gave an overview ofthe Foundation’s functioning and said the organization is not only working forthe orphans, but is also running programmes including widow welfare programme,girls upliftment in domestic environment, marriage of orphan and poor girls andis also providing educational scholarships to the students. He asked theyoungsters to come forward and volunteer themselves for this noble cause.

Deputy DSW CUK, Faizan Ashraf in his address said the mainaim and objective of holding the awareness programme was to sensitize thestudents and faculty members about their role and responsibility in addressingthe issues related to orphans. He said the DSW would extend full support toJKYF in organizing more such programmes.

Former Chairman JKYF, Muhammad Rafiq Lone also spoke on theoccasion and said that since its inception, the Foundation has been putting instrenuous efforts to take forward the welfare and rehabilitation activities. Hesaid the sensitization about the real plight and sufferings of the weakersections of the society needs to be prioritized.
