CUK organises workshop on ‘foldscope assembly and usage’

The Department of Animal Sciences, School of Life Sciences,Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised a one-day workshop on “foldscopeassembly and usage,” at the Science block here on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. Fayaz ANikka, Dean School of Science and Director Science and Arts block, Prof M AfzalZargar, resource person, Head Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, SKUAST(K), Dr Irfan Ahmad Khan, Head Department of Biotechnology, Dr Abid,coordinators of departments, faculty members and students were present on theoccasion.

   

Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir while addressing thegathering, hailed the department of Animal Sciences for holding the workshopand assured all possible support from the university for conducting theacademic activities. Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university would provideState-of-the-art laboratory facilities to the students pursuing education inScience programmes, adding that research programmes would be also started inthese programmes. He said the students would be send outside the state for theproject work.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka said, the workshop is extremelyimportant for the Science students. “It is the job of the scientists to uncoverthe realities of the nature, which haven’t been explored so far and use themfor the betterment of the mankind.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dean School of Science and Director Science and Arts block, Prof M Afzal Zargar, said that although Foldscope is a small, simple and low cost instrument, but it gives us an inspiration to create innovative things for undertaking experimentations in the field of Science. Assistant Professor, Department of Animal Sciences, Dr Latief Ahmad in his introductory remarks said, the expert during the workshop would discuss various contour and usage of the Foldscope.

Holds awareness programme about abilities of special students

Central University of Kashmir’s School of Education,in collaboration with the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), Bemina, Srinagarorganized an awareness programme about the special abilities of the disabledstudents at Green Campus, here on Thursday. Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika,presided over the function, while as former Dean and Head, School of EducationProf. N.A. Nadeem was the guest of honour. Dean School of Education, Dr. SyedZahoor Ahmad Geelani, scholars, students and faculty members of the School ofEducation, and staff members of VMS Bemina were also present on theoccasion.  In his opening remarks, DeanSchool of Education, Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani emphasized the importance oforganizing such events. Dr. Geelani expressed that students are practicallyoriented about the spirit of inclusive society through holding of suchprogrammes.  Prof. Nadeem in his specialaddress expressed that disabled children are the asset of any society whosepotential need to be harnessed professionally. Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika while presenting the presidentialaddress emphasized that disabled children are the part and parcel of society.
