CWC asks police to file FIR against LD doctor

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Srinagar has asked police to lodge an FIR against a doctor of LalDed hospital, who allegedly denied admission to a pregnant woman from a far off area of Kalaroos in district Kupwara in the hospital.

Resultantly, the woman delivered the baby allegedly on the road side, and the baby died soon after her birth.

Chairperson CWC, Farooq Ahmad Khan said, “After getting to know about the case, I along with nodal officer CWC Afshan Paul and two other officer rushed to the police station Rajbagh and asked them to register a case against the doctor, but they asked us to wait for the investigation report and then accordingly they will lodge an FIR.”

Meanwhile, the Juvenile Justice Panel has expressed anguish over the “criminal negligence” of the doctor.

Chairperson Selection-Cum-Oversight-Committee (SCOC) Justice (retired) HasnainMasoodi has asked Governor’s advisor Kumar to initiate a time bound probe into the matter so that the erring doctor is dealt with under law.

“It’s important to know why she was referred from Kalaroos in this inclement weather to Srinagar. If we have qualified doctors in peripheral, why was there a need to shift her to LalDed Hospital?” he asked.

“The infant had a right to be born and live. This is a serious matter and need to be dealt seriously,” he said.
