Daily wagers, casual labourers of sericulture department hold protest

Demanding wages, scores of daily wagers and casual labourers of sericulture department today protested against authorities at press colony Srinagar.

“We have been demanding our salary for a long time. Even when we work for a whole year we only get wages for only 6 to 9 months and that too is now pending,” said one of the protestors.

“Our wages are Rs 6750 and we get only around 3000, in today’s world it is impossible to make our ends meet with such a salary. We had already requested government to raise the funds allocated to our department so that our problems will be solved but those appeals fell on deaf ears,” said a protestor Ghulam Mohi-ud-din.  “The government allocated funds for our department is around 2.85 crore which is not enough for the department and a budget of Rs 7 crore was proposed to the government which would have solved all the grievances.
