Day after Altaf Bukhari’s expulsion, PDP’s Amira Kadal Zone president resigns

A day after former Jammu and Kashmir minister Syed Altaf Bukhari was expelled from the party, PDP’s Amira Kadal zone president Muhammad Ashraf Dar on Sunday tendered his resignation to the party chief Mehbooba Mufti.

Altaf Bukhari, former education and finance minister in PDP-BJP alliance government,  had won his elections from Amira Kadal constituency in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections of 2014 on PDP ticket.

In his resignation letter addressed to Mehbooba, Dar said the sequel to the disparaging political development especially the manner with which the party affairs are being run by the PDP leadership, “it has become clear to me that I will not be able to fulfill my party responsibility, as we would both wish to.”

“During my long association with this party from year 2000, I witnessed many political phases, wherein this party was trying to prove itself as a viable political alternative for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“But unfortunately the present situation within the party especially after the demise of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, I have come to conclusion that this party is not following the footsteps of late Mufti saheb and the principles for which it was established.”

He added: “In light of the above mentioned facts, I hereby tender resignation from my basic membership and as the Zone President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Amira Kadal constituency with effect from 20-1-2019.”
