Day after shutdown, life returns to normal in Kashmir

Life returns to normal in Kashmir valley on Friday after remaining paralysed on Thursday due to a protest shutdown called by the separatists against the Lok Sabha polls.

Shops and other commercial establishments opened in Srinagar – summer capital of the state – and elsewhere while transport also started plying.

A complete shutdown was observed in the valley yesterday following a call issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership against the election held yesterday for Srinagar-Budgam parliamentary seat.

Nearly 15 per cent voting was recorded in the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat yesterday while over 70 per cent turnout was recorded in Udhampur seat.

Train services which remained suspended yesterday were also resumed today.
