District Development Commissioner (DDC), Pulwama Raghav Langer Friday convened a meeting to review functioning of handicrafts and handloom departments.
The meeting was attendedby additional directors of handicraft, handloom departments, Lead Bank manager,block programme officer NRLM and other officers.
The meeting was informedthat 20 training centres with intake capacity of 25 trainees were functionalacross the district and 199 unskilled youth have been trained in various craftsin these centers, while 1487 artisan cards have been provided to skilledpersons.
The DDC said coordinatedeffort of all the line departments was required to revive handicraft andhandloom sector. He said the sectors have potential to make people self-economically.
He asked the officers forconducting fairs, exhibitions and buyer-seller meets across the district. Hesaid branding, marketing and patronage of the produce would be pivotal inreviving these sectors.
The DDC directed theofficers for creating a viable action plan to link artisan community withavailable credit system.
