Defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman visits Kashmir, reviews security

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday visited Kashmir valley to review the security situation.

“The Raksha Mantri accompanied by COAS General Bipin Rawat was received by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander,” said an army spokesman.

   

He said the defence minister was briefed about the security and administrative arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra on ground. 

Sitharaman was subsequently given an update by the Chinar Corps Commander in Badami Bagh Cantonment on the latest security scenario on the Kashmir Valley including details of Counter Infiltration and Counter Militant Operations undertaken in the recent past, said the spokesman.

“She appreciated the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational grids and commended the commanders and troops for the excellent operational successes, which has contributed significantly towards improving the security environment in Kashmir Valley.”

Later in the evening, the defence minister also interacted with the governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar and discussed the overall security situation in the Valley.
