Defunct X-ray machine at CHC Hajin hits patient care

The defunct X-ray machine at the community health center (CHC) Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is causing severe inconvenience to the patients.

Locals said that the machine at the health center had developed some fault some 15 days ago but the hospital authorities have not been able to repair it since, leaving them dependent on private diagnostic centers.

The locals said they are forced to either visit Sumbal or go to a private diagnostic center to get the X-rays done.

“The private diagnostic centers at Hajin also remain open till 4 pm. A few days ago my two relatives met with an accident during evening and we had to shift them to Sumbal to get the X-ray done. This is the state of health care in our area,” Arshid, a local resident said.

The locals also said that the X-ray machine is outdated as it has been installed when CHC was a primary health center in 1964. “Every now and then the machine breaks down,” the local residents said.

Block Medical Officer Hajin, Dr. Tariq assured the machine will be made functional within “three-four days”.

He said that they have also submitted a proposal for the digital X-ray machine for CHC Hajin.
