Delay in KU results: HoDs, Directors asked to expedite uploading of award sheets

After delay in the declaration of result of students in post-graduation (PG) departments of Kashmir University (KU), the controller examination of the varsity has directed the heads and directors of the departments to upload the award sheets immediately after the culmination of the exams of the students.

The controller has however attributed the delay in results to the delayed evaluation of open elective component of the students by the concerned departments.

An official communique in this regard has been issued by the controller examinations, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, on Thursday impressing upon all heads of the departments (HoDs) and directors to upload the pending continuous assessment of open elective and term marks of the students within three days.

“All the HoDs and directors should upload pending continuous assessment of open elective and term marks of their students from 3rd to 10th semester, as the case may be, and the marks of the students of sister departments who have opted for their open elective course,” reads the official communique, adding that the marks be uploaded within three days “unless further delay is accounted for with cogent reasons.”

An official said the results of the post-graduation students is not declared on time since the varsity adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) scheme of subjects and decentralized the authorities for holding of exams and evaluation to the concerned HoD or director of the department.

“For instance, CBCS allows a student to opt for one subject apart from his main subject stream. This subject is called open elective and the result of the student gets delayed if the evaluation of this open elective subject is delayed by the concerted department,” an official at the KU said.

He said another reason for delay in declaration of result on time is because the varsity administration, some years ago, authorised concerned HoDs or directors of the PG departments to set the paper and also evaluate them at department level.

“The examination department is only given the award sheets for declaration of results. Earlier, setting of question papers and evaluation was done by the examination department,” he said.

Meanwhile, the official communique reads that the students, both at PG and undergraduate (UG) levels have immensely suffered due to delay in declaration of their results which has been taken very seriously by the university authorities.

“It is impressed upon all the HODs and directors that henceforth they should ensure without fail uploading of all the marks of different components of a semester immediately and at the most within 25 days from the termination of the exams,” it reads.

As per the communique, the HoDs and directors have been asked to personally monitor the process instead of delegating it exclusively to their faculty members.

“The result of the students of CBCS is now interdependent and even if marks of all the papers are uploaded by any particular department, the result can’t be declared unless marks of the open electives by the sister department are also uploaded,” the official document reads, adding that it has a chain effect which unnecessarily delays the declaration of the result.
