DFP leaders, activists stage demo against Shabir Shah’s detention

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) leaders and activists Monday  staged a protest here against continued incarceration of the DFP chief Shabir Shah and his shifting to Kasturi ward in Tihar jail.

“The workers and office bearers of DFP led by senior party leader advocate Fayaz Sodagr assembled at press enclave and raised slogans demanding release of Shabir Shah and all other political prisoners,” a  DFP spokesman said in a statement.

The protesters held placards and banners, expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of Shabir Shah who is continuously denied suitable medical treatment in Tihar jail, New Delhi, the spokesman added.

“Shah has been shifted to Kasturi ward of Tihar jail meant for the prisoners whose jail record or behavior towards other inmates or towards jail staff is not good. He has been placed in a small cell of the ward where he is unable to even spread his legs while sleeping. Prisoners are shifted to Kasturi ward as a case of punishment and Kashmir’s resistance leader Shabir Shah is virtually being punished in Tihar jail for advocating right to self determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir,” Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar told reporters.

He said, “Shabir Shah is suffering from multiple ailments especially knee and back pain, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, heart ailments and he is not able to get himself accommodated in the small cell in Tihar jail. The jailed resistance leader is allowed to go to washroom only after seeking permission.”
