DG Prisons visits Baramulla, Kupwara jails

Director General of Prisons,  VK Singh, who is also holding the charge of  Director General Fire & Emergency Services J&K today paid his maiden visit to district Jail Baramulla/Kupwara to review the security arrangements and evaluate the reformatory programmes running in the jail, a police spokesman said in a statement.

Singh was accompanied by Muhammad Suleman Choudhary, DIG NKRBaramulla, Abdul Qayoom- SSP Baramulla, Ifroz Ahmed Mir, Addl. SP Kupwara,Yasser Parrey, DySP Hqrs Kupwara, Inspector Iqbal Ahmed Shah, SHO P/S Baramullaand Inspector Muhammad Ashraf, SHO P/S Kupwara.

   

Barkat Ahmad Dar, Superintendent District Jail Baramulla/Shahbaz Hussain Bhat, Superintendent District Jail Kupwara and other officersof the jail and CRPF were also present during his visit.

The Director General, according to the spokesman, took around of the premises and inspected the infrastructure and barracks. Heinteracted with the inmates regarding facilities available to them in thejails. He also visited the hospital, kitchens and other sections of the prisonand asked the Jail superintendents to introduce vocational training programmesin the jails.

The Director General took a darbar of the prison staff andlistened to their grievances patiently. He urged the staff to put in their bestefforts to strengthen the security system and play their role in reformation ofinmates.

He said the staff must work together as a team and remainalert to thwart any nefarious designs of anti-social elements. He also reviewedthe ongoing construction works and urged upon the concerned to ensure speedycompletion of the works. 

Earlier, Director General had ordered a probe into theepisode of violence at district Jail Kupwara in which few inmates were injuredduring a scuffle on 16 June 2019. Following the incident a search of jailpremises/barracks was carried out under the supervision of Jail SuperintendentKupwara and nine mobile phones were recovered.

Singh also inspected the Fire & Emergency StationsBaramulla  & Kupwara i.e. Seelu,Sangrama, Pattan, Hqrs Kupwara  &Command Office Kupwara .

He interacted with the staff and issued a number of on-spotdirections to the concerned officers for quick response to ensure the FireService motto “We Serve to Save”. He took note of inadequate infrastructure andshortage of manpower.

Singh assured them that steps would be taken to attend thedeficiencies and make the organization more effective and efficient.

He was accompanied by Abdul Khaliq Wani, Assistant Director,Fire & Emergency Services, Command Kupwara, Baramulla & Farooq AhmadLone Divisional Fire Officer, Sub Command Baramulla during the inspection.
