DIET Sopore commits grave errors in compilation of marks cards

The authorities in District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIETs) Sopore in Baramulla district have committed grave errors in the compilation of marks cards of students from 5th to 8th classes who appeared in their annual exams last year.

Post exams, the students joined their new classes inNovember last year however the errors are yet to be rectified on the markscards of their previous classes, exposing the laxity of the DIET officials.

   

Greater Kashmir got access to some of the marks cardsprepared by the DIET officials wherein it was revealed that the officialscompiling the marks sheets have committed mistakes in awarding marks to thestudents.

A student of class 8th has been awarded 163 out of 30 marksin one of the subjects while as another student has been awarded 198 out of100.

In the wake of the mass errors committed on hundreds ofstudents, the authorities have stopped distribution of marks cards to thestudents despite the passage of more than eight months.

“The students have joined their new classes in November lastyear and are supposed to appear in Mid-Term exams next month. But they are yetto receive the marks cards of previous classes,” said an official wishing notto be named.

To save their skin, the DIET officials had put the blame onthe concerned schools but the schools after submitting the soft copy of theresult sheets have got exonerated. “DIET officials wanted to put blame onteachers but they have no role in it,” an official said.

In a school the DIET officials have produced flawed markscards of 22 out of 32 students of class 8th. Nine students of class 6th havebeen awarded flawed marks as well.

“The DIET officials have not done any proof reading of thedata compiled on the computers before printing the marks cards of the studentswhich has resulted in the mass errors on the marks cards,” the official said.

There is already outcry against DIETs for charging Rs 280 asexamination fee from class 8th students and Rs 260 from class 5th and 6thstudents. “Earlier, the exams of lower classes was conducted at school leveland students were charged only Rs 30 to Rs 50. The exam and results used to beerror-free,” said head teacher of a middle school.

Principal DIET Sopore, Joginder Kumar, said the matter willbe looked into. “I have recently joined here. I will verify about the issuetomorrow,” he said.Principal State Institute of Education (SIE)Srinagar, Mehboob Hussain, said the matter will be inquired and serious actionwill be taken against the erring officials if proven guilty.
