Dogs maul 6th class student in Kangan

Kangan teenager who was injured critically after a pack of stray dogs attacked him last evening is battling for life at SKIMS Soura, Srinagar.

Haroon Rashid, 13, a class 6th student of Kijpora Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was referred to SKIMS Srinagar from sub district hospital Kangan, official said.

They said the boy was critically injured after a pack of stray dogs attacked him at Sheikh Bagh in Kangan town along Srinagar-Leh highway, when he was returning from a coaching centre at Kangan.

They said the cry of the boy caught the attention of the passersby. “It was only after the intervention of the locals that the boy was rescued from the dogs.”

He was rushed to sub district hospital Kangan for treatment from where he was immediately referred to SKIMS in critical condition. A health official at SKIMS Soura said the boy was transfused eight pints of blood and is under treatment in the intensive care unit.

Pertinently, it is the fifth incident of its kind in the area since the past month.

Last week, three CRPF personnel 118 BN posted at Margund Kangan camp and a teenager girl were injured after a pack of dogs attacked them on the outskirts of Kangan town.

Locals have appealed to the authorities to take all possible measures for preventing such incidents.

SDM Kangan, Masrat Hashim told Greater Kashmir that he along with Tehsildar Kangan visited the SKIMS Soura today and found the condition of the boy was improving.
