It is an attack on JK’s special position: Mainstream leaders
Mainstream political parties on Wednesday reacted sharply to the Government’s move to grant domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees, saying “it is an attack on State’s special position.”
State Congress president Ghulam Ahmad Mir said the Chief Minister should have called an All –Party meeting to discuss the issue.
“Since the issue was debatable, the CM should have called an All-Party meeting on it. It was PDP which was vehemently opposing granting of domicile certificate to WPRs,” he said.
Senior National Conference leader Ali Muhammad Sagar said granting of domicile certificates to the Refugees is an attack on Jammu and Kashmir’s special position.
“This move is aimed at changing demography of Jammu and Kashmir. They (BJP) want to reduce the Muslim majority of the State into minority,’’ Sagar said.
“New Delhi is calling shots in Kashmir. We feel pity on Mehbooba Mufti’s helplessness before State BJP and Centre. BJP’s candid admission that the move will pave the way for granting state subject rights to West Pakistan refugees, exposes the nefarious designs behind the move,” he said.
He, however, said NC is not against West Pakistan refugees. “We are not against them, but they cannot become state subjects because they are foreigners,” he said.
MLA Langate, Er Rasheed has termed move of granting domicile certificates to West Pakistan refugees as “unacceptable”
“I ask Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to break ties with BJP and step down without befooling the people further,” Rasheed while addressing a public gathering at Chek Sarmarg Handwara.
“The move to grant domicile certificates to lakhs of WP refugees is a calculated move to change the demography of the state. Government of India is doing exactly the same what Israelis did in Palestine. The move is a desperate attempt to change the Muslim character of the state,” he said.
“All the nationalist forces, cutting across party lines and political affiliations need to read the writing on the wall and fight the colonial designs of New Delhi, which is hell bent to change the statics at all levels in the disputed territory,” he said.
“Mehbooba Mufti is bulldozing the rights of majority community. She should stop justifying every notorious move of New Delhi and understand that Kashmiris hold her directly responsible for all these notorious infiltrations in the identity and sovereignty of state. Let Mehbooba Mufti confess that if granting domicile certificates to WP refugees is one of the steps to fulfill her promise of resolving Kashmir dispute during her tenure,” he said.
“Mehbooba Mufti should show some level of respect and responsibility towards the rights of people of state and breakup her ties with BJP at an earliest,” Rasheed said.
