An MDM spokesman, in a statement today, appealed to the people to join the ‘Release Dr Qasim Campaign’ by visiting www.muslimdeenimahaz.com.

Senior separatist leader and Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) chief, Dr Muhammad Qasim, is completing 22 years of incarceration on February 5, Thursday.

An MDM spokesman, in a statement today, appealed to the people to join the ‘Release Dr Qasim Campaign’ by visiting www.muslimdeenimahaz.com.

“Dr Qasim along with his wife Aasiya Andrabi and son was apprehended by the forces at Srinagar Airport on February 5, 1993. The prosecution has failed to prove the case against the accused persons. The only ‘evidence’ against them is their confessional statements,” the spokesman said.

“…We therefore convict the respondents U/S 3 of the TADA and U/S 302 read with 120 BIPC. The respondents are sentenced to life imprisonment. They shall be given benefit of the period already undergone by them”, the spokesman quoted CA No.8809 of 2001, Supreme Court of India, dated 30-01-2003.

He said Dr Qasim has not been released till date despite serving more than life imprisonment.
