Amid shutdown tributes paid to slain pro-freedom leader
Islamabad (Anantnag), June 19: In response to the call of Ummat-E-Islami (UEI), a complete shutdown was observed here in this South Kashmir township to commemorate the 20th death anniversary of prominent pro-freedom and religious leader Dr Qazi Nisar Ahmad.
Shops, business establishments and schools remained closed while the attendance in government offices was thin with skeletal transport movement on the roads.
Early in the morning people in large numbers marched towards the Martyrs Graveyard near Idharai-Tehkeekat-I-Islami Madarsa, where Dr Qazi Nissar is buried and offered Fateh Khwani and paid tributes to the slain pro-freedom leader.
Later on, a rally led by slain leader’s son Mirwaiz South Kashmir and UEI Chairman, Qazi Ahmad Yasir, was taken out which culminated at Dialgam village.
Qazi Nisar Ahmad , one of the founders of Muslim United Front (MUF) was gunned down by the unidentified gunmen in Dialgam village on this day in 1994.
Paying glowing tributes to the slain Leader, Qazi Yasir said, “ Dr Qazi Nisar was a great religious scholar and a patriot who always laid emphasis on unity of Ummah”.
Yasir said that the contribution of Qazi Nisar in the freedom movement is unparallel.
“He was the man responsible for bringing different political and religious parties, though sharing different ideologies but fighting for the cause of Muslims in the state on a single platform and the result was the creation of MUF,” said Yasir.
“In spite being the architect of MUF he himself choose not to contest the election in 1987 and sacrificed his life for achieving the freedom,” he added.
Yasir vowed to take the mission of his father, Qazi Nisar and other martyrs to its logical end.
Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, while paying rich tributes to Qazi Nisar, described him a great leader who strived for safeguarding the Muslim identity of Kashmir.
“Qazi Nisar’s struggle and sacrifices cannot be ignored by anyone and today we all express our gratitude and love for this noble soul. Today when we remember him, we all should follow his footsteps and come forward to save our national identity and resistance movement. The enemies of Jammu Kashmir are again out to destroy and snatch our Muslim identity from us. RSS and BJP are planning to declare lakhs of outsiders (non-Kashmiri) refugees as the citizens of Jammu Kashmir and thus change the demography of Jammu Kashmir and snatch from us our national identity and Muslim character,” Yasin Malik said in a statement today.
Paying rich tributes to Dr Qazi Nisar, the Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) senior leader and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah hailed his religious, political and educational contributions He described him as wonderful orator, preacher, educationist, and analyst of his time.
The senior resistance leader and National Front (NF) chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who is under house arrest, has paid glowing tributes late Dr Qazi Nisar, describing his religious, social and political services as unforgettable.
However, another HCJK leader Muhamad Yasin Atai, who visited native village of slain leader, paid glowing tributes to him.Chief Patron Jammu Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi (MeA) Muhammad Azam Inqilabi while paying tributes to Dr Qazi Nisar, said, “Mirwaiz Nisar played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle.”
Paying rich tributes to Dr Qazi Nisar National Conference today described him as a religious scholar and social reformer of the highest order.
“Dr Qazi Nisar’s martyrdom created a conspicuous vacuum in the Valley, the NC senior leader Dr Mehboob Beg, in a statement day, adding that “Such tragic assassinations had left an indelible mark on the psyche of the people. The bloodshed of scholars, reformers and religious figures in the Valley by the enemies of Kashmiriyat was a collective loss for humanity. National Conference has always advocated the importance of the peaceful and political resolution of the Kashmir Issue and has always condemned bloodshed irrespective of who the culprits are.”
Various other NC leaders including Peerzada Ghulam Ahmed Shah, Haji Abdul Gani Veeri, Junaid Azim Mattu, Bashir Ahmed Veeri and Dr Muhammad Shafi have also paid tributes to Shaheed Mirwaiz Qazi Nisar.
