A drug de-addiction awareness programmeorganised by the Civil Society Ganderbal (CSG) was held here at government boys higher secondary school on Thursday. The awareness programme was based on the theme ‘Socio-economic and legal implications of drug abuse’.
Convener civil society GanderbalDrKhurshid Ahmed besides various members spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the ill-effects of drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drugs and other social evils in the district.
The organisers said the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the drug menace.
Dr. Khursheed Qureshi discussed its health aspects and added that if any person is in stressful conditions or facing drug abuse, CSG will lend him or her a helping hand by providing counseling and medical facilities free of cost.
Social activist Bilal Wani stressed upon the social and economic aspect of the drug abuse. Mudasir Hamid, member CSG deliberated upon the legal aspect by making the students aware about narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances act 1985 and the recent draft of drug policy in Jammu Kashmir. Principal higher secondary school Ganderbal Muhammad Ashraf Wanipresented vote of thanks. A similar drug de-addiction awareness programme aiming at spreading awareness about the ill-effects of drugs was organised by Marifat-i-Auliya Trust here at BakuraGanderbal.
