Drug de-addiction awareness programme held in Ganderbal

A drug de-addiction awareness programmeorganised by the Civil Society Ganderbal (CSG) was held here at government boys higher secondary school on Thursday. The awareness programme was based on the theme ‘Socio-economic and legal implications of drug abuse’.

Convener civil society GanderbalDrKhurshid Ahmed besidesvarious members spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the ill-effects ofdrug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicatethe menace of drugs and other social evils in the district.

   

The organisers said the main aim of the programme was tospread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps forcurbing the drug menace.

Dr. Khursheed Qureshi discussed its health aspects and addedthat if any person is in stressful conditions or facing drug abuse, CSG willlend him or her a helping hand by providing counseling and medical facilitiesfree of cost.

Social activist Bilal Wani stressed upon the social andeconomic aspect of the drug abuse. Mudasir Hamid, member CSG deliberated uponthe legal aspect by making the students aware about narcotic drugs andpsychotropic substances act 1985 and the recent draft of drug policy in JammuKashmir. Principal higher secondary school Ganderbal Muhammad AshrafWanipresented vote of thanks. A similar drug de-addiction awareness programmeaiming at spreading awareness about the ill-effects of drugs was organised byMarifat-i-Auliya Trust here at BakuraGanderbal.
