Drug peddler arrested from Ganderbal: Police

Jammu Police issues statement to dispel 'misinformation' regarding death of person in custody

Police on Thursday said it arrested a “dreaded drug peddler” from Saffapora here.

A statement said a police party led by station houseofficer, police station Saffapora, SI Sajad Khanday, under the supervision ofDySP Ganderbal, S M Shafi and under patronage of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil AhmadPoswal, intercepted one person, Muhammad Yasin Bhat, of Kambay Mohalla, Wakura,Ganderbal, who tried to evade Police naka at Treesa Saffapora crossing.

   

“He was trying to sneak into nearby densely populated civilarea. After a lot of resistance the person was apprehended along with a bagwith 20 bottles of codein phosphate,” the statement said.

It said the accused was arrested and other legal formalitieswere completed simultaneously.

A case (FIR No 14/2020, U/S 8/21 NDPS) has been lodged atpolice station Saffapora and further investigation taken up, the statementsaid. “This is the fifth arrest of drug peddler within one month and the arrestedpeddler is dreaded one and a close ally of recently arrested drug peddler @Sooda, with a strong network. He was active for the last seven years.”

The statement said people have hailed the action of policeand expressed their concerns over the growing trend of drug addiction andtrafficking.
