ECI likely to visit J&K next month

The full Election Commission of India is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of March to examine whether the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections can be conducted separately or simultaneously. 

A source told Greater Kashmir that ECI comprising chief election commissioner Sunil Arora and election commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra is expected to visit the state on March 4 and 5 to get feedback from different stakeholders before arriving at decision on holding the polls.

   

“We have been conveyed that they will arrive in Srinagar on March 4 and will visit Jammu next day. But there can be a change in their programme,” he said.

The ECI is expected to interact with officials from civil administration, police and representatives of different political parties.
