Elaborate arrangements put in place in Ganderbal for annual Amarnath yatra

With just two days left for annual Amarnath yatra to commence the district’s civil and police administration on Sunday made elaborate arrangements for yatra scheduled to start from June 28.

Officials said multi tier security arrangements have been put in place for the yatra along district’s Baltal route, while several companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in addition to state police personnel.

The track to holy cave via Baltal is shorter compared to Pahalgam route. The officials maintained though there is no “threat” to yatra in the district, but added that no chances will be taken and adequate measures have been put in place to ensure smooth yatra.

“The joint police control room functioning round the clock is being set-up at Baltal, which would be attended by representatives from different departments to provide quick service to the pilgrims,” said an official. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police central Kashmir B K Birdi sounded confident of the measures that have been put in place for yatra in the district.

“We have put in multi-tier security arrangements for Amarnath yatra. 50-60 companies of CRPF along with Jammu and Kashmir police and other security agencies have been deployed,” said Birdi, adding that transit camp has also been set for yatris at Manigam.

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Dr Piyush Singhla said arrangements have been made to provide clean water, electricity, ration and sanitation to yatris. Singhla added that no unregistered yatri will be allowed to proceed towards Baltal base camp.
