Even after 18-years, justice a distant dream for families of Chasttisinghpora massacre victims: Hurriyat (M)

Expressing its serious concern over the unabated human rights violations in Kashmir including harassment and detention of youth and the frequent search operations, Hurriyat Conference (M) Tuesday said justice continues to elude the families of 35 families of Sikh community even after 18 years.

The Hurriyat said that rising graph of human rights violations is an eye-opener for the world human rights bodies. In a statement issued here, the Hurriyat expressed its solidarity and sympathy with the families of all the families whose loved ones were killed in Chattisingpora incident and stated that like other dozens of massacres committed by the government forces, the Government of India and also the State’s dispensation continues to adopt a criminal silence even as guilty are roaming free.

“Probes announced in Chattisinghpora and Pathribal fake encounter have always been used a weapon to clam the tempers of people and to buy time. Not a single probe ordered by the successive regimes so far has been taken to conclusion let alone punishing the guilty,” the Hurriyat said.

The Hurriyat said that in the past three decades, Kashmir has witnessed brutal massacres that include Zakoora, Islamia College Hawal, Gow Kadal, Sopore, Bijbehara,  Kupwara, Handwara, Shopian and many others where in forces fired indiscriminately at the innocent people turning the streets of Kashmir red everywhere.  “In all these massacres, what people of Kashmir got from the ruling regimes is announcement of probes which actually was a mere eye-wash. Fact remains that justice continues to remain a distant dream for their families,” the Hurriyat said.

The Hurriyat urged the world human rights bodies to take strong notice of the worst form of human rights violations being committed in Kashmir by the government forces. “We strongly condemned the harassment of people and vandalizing of properties in the name of CASO in length and breadth of Kashmir,” it said.
