Family of a deceased youth protests in Shopian, demands probe

The family members and relatives of a deceased youth, whose body was recovered from a stream in south Kashmir’s Shopian district a few days ago, held a protest demonstration at Vehil village on Monday afternoon, seeking probe into the incident.

On May 5, body of Rayees Ahmad Mir of Vehil was recovered from a stream in Reshnagri area.

Mir (28), according to his family, went missing on April 18 and a report was registered with police station Shopian.

The family alleged that the body of Mir bore torture marks and he was murdered in cold bood.

“We demand a fair probe by police into the incident. We suspect some foul play” said a family member.

Mir was a computer graduate and was jobless for more than a year. Earlier, he taught at a local private school.
