Family urges missing Bandipora youth to return home

Family of a young man who went missing earlier this month from northern Kashmir’s Bandipora, Friday appealed to him to return home.

Umer Wani, 25, son of Mohammad Shaban Wani of Khanporalocality in the town left his home on June 2, but has not returned since.

   

Umer, suspected to have joined militant ranks, used to drivean autorickshaw for livelihood as the sole breadwinner for his elderly parentsand an ailing brother, his relatives say.

His father said that after Shab-e-Qadr Umer left home tobring back some passengers from Ahamsharief shrine in Bandipora.

“Since then he has not returned home. After a few days wefiled a missing report with Bandipora police station to trace him. We have beenlooking for him all over but failed to get any trace. His phone is alsoswitched off,” Shaban said.

“My elder son is not well and is dependent on medicines. Mywife is also on medication and I am myself suffering from a life-threateningdisease. I have to undergo a surgery at SKIMS on Monday.”

Shaban urged his son to return home.

“He was the only one who would take care of us. His motherhas not slept even a wink since he has gone missing,” Shaban said.

A police official said a missing report was received fromthe family efforts were ongoing to trace him.
