Farooq’s TRC demand a political gimmick: Sehrai

Reacting to National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah’s demand for Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH)  Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai on Monday said, “Those involved, directly or indirectly, in heinous crimes against the Kashmiris should restrain from issuing such statements.”

“These people should introspect before issuing such statement. All of us know the fate of the investigations and probes which were ordered by the same people in the past when they were in power.”

Terming Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement as a  “political gimmick” for the upcoming elections,  Sehrai said, “Where was his truth and reconciliation morality when Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat were sent to the gallows and thousands of innocent Kashmiris were killed. It is irony that the parties which are responsible for all the mess the state has witnessed since decades is demanding such commission. Instead these people should come out with truth and share it with people.”

“The investigations revealed nothing more than shielding culprits. We vehemently reject the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as we do not expect justice from the system which is perpetuating human rights violations against the oppressed people of Jammu Kashmir,” Sehria said. “None of the victims of human rights violations in the state has got justice from the system which is based on fraud and cheating,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sehrai condemned has condemned alleged ‘ill and inhuman’ treatment being meted out to the political prisoners from Kashmir lodged in different jails.

He also condoled the demise of the grandfather of Kashmir Uzma Sub-Editor Showket Hamid, praying for the deceased and sympathizing with the bereaved family.
