Five arrested in Shopian with material used in IEDs: Police

Police Wednesday said they have arrested five persons in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

“On specific inputs police raided several villages inZainpora area of the district and detained five persons,” an official said. Hesaid that material used in making IEDs including wires and batteries wererecovered from their possession.

   

The official identified those arrested as Amir Nazir Wanison of Nazir Ahmad of Durpora Shopian, Sameer Mushtaq Bhat son of Mushtaq AhmadBhat of Shirmal Shopian, Faisal Farooq Bhat son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat of MooluChitragam, Shopian, Rayees Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Ayoub of Dangerpora Shopianand Aqib Nazir Rather son of Nazir Ahmad Rather of Awneera Shopian.

The official said that a case was registered andinvestigations initiated.

Pertinently, militants on Monday set off an IED in Arihalvillage of neighbouring Pulwama district, injuring as many as nine soldiers.Two of them later died of their injuries at an army hospital in Srinagar.

According to an official, five IED attacks have taken placesince January 2018.

“Of them three caused fatalities,” added the official.
