Forces fire in air to break up demos in Kulgam after Abu Qasim's death

Protests broke out earlier today near the encounter site in Khandaypora village of Kulgam where police said LeT commander Abu Qasim was killed late last night.

Government forces Thursday resorted to aerial firing to disperse hundreds of protesters who staged a demonstration in Kulgam district of south Kashmir against the death of top Lashkar militant Abu Qasim.

Protests broke out earlier today near the encounter site in Khandaypora village of Kulgam where police said LeT commander Abu Qasim was killed late last night.

Witnesses said that angry youths took to streets at Khandaypora village after the news of death of Abu Qasim spread in the area.

To break up the demonstrations, police resorted to aerial firing, they said.

The protests were going on at the time of filing of this report.
