Inam Bhat, along with some political activists, attacked the officials while they were distributing relief cheques among the destitute in their office on Thursday.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) and nephew of former legislator Nizamudin Bhat, Inam Bhat, was booked on Friday by police ‘for deterring public officer and criminal intimidation’ after he allegedly attacked officials of Rural Development Department here a day before.

Inam Bhat, along with some political activists, attacked the officials while they were distributing relief cheques among the destitute in their office on Thursday.

The officials later submitted a complaint to Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shah Faesal.

“We were busy in distribution of cheques. Former MLA’s PRO entered the room and demanded the cheques, on our refusal he tossed chairs and heating appliances on us,” said Abdul Rashid, Section Officer in Planning Wing of RDD Bandipora.

“He also starting abusing all officials,” Rashid said. “We were always tolerating his abuses, but today he crossed the limits and attacked even senior officials,” said another official.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shah Faesal, has expressed concern over the incident and asked police to go hard against such elements who resort to harassment of government officials. Block Development Officer Bandipora, Mushtaq Ahmad, told Greater Kashmir that his officials were attacked on duty.

“We have approached Deputy Commissioner Bandipora and lodged complaint against the PRO in police station Bandipora,” he said. Inam Bhat however accused the RDD officials of seeking bribe from poor people.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, he said the officials were demanding bribe form one Gulzar Ahmed Lone of Sonarwani who was approved for IAY case under CDF fund.

He said that the officials had failed to submit Gulzar’s application and verification report as he didn’t pay bribe. “When I inquired about the delay, the RDD officials started getting angry which lead to the scuffle,” Inam said.

He further said that Gulzar Ahmad Lone has submitted his statement to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Bandipora.

A police officer told Greater Kashmir that they have lodged an FIR after receiving complaint from Block Development Officer Bandipora.

“Inam Bhat has been booked for deterring public officer and criminal intimidation under section 353/506 under FIR No. 13/2015. Investigation has been initiated,” he said.
